An unplanned failure takes it off the road on a day a customer was waiting, often somewhere with no facilities. Total workshop hours may not fall much, and in the early months they usually rise as deferred work surfaces. What changes is that the hours stop being emergencies, and the emergency is where the cost actually sits.

No. VMRS is supported because it is the closest thing the industry has to a shared vocabulary for components and repair reasons, and it pays off most for fleets running several sites or buying work from outside garages. A fleet with an established internal scheme can keep it. What is not optional is having some consistent scheme. Free-text job descriptions stay readable to one person for about a year, after which nobody can tell whether the same axle failed four times or four different things did.

Sometimes, and it is worth being blunt about when it should not. A dealer management system doing heavy warranty claim submission, technician payroll and retail customer invoicing is doing jobs KO Fleetz does not attempt. If your workshop sells work to the public, keep it and integrate.
