The first week is genuinely good. You watch the vehicles move, you discover two drivers doing something they should not, and the purchase feels justified. Then the novelty burns off, because staring at a map is not a job. The map answers where is it, and almost nobody's real question is where is it. The real questions are whether it will make the eleven o'clock, why it sat at that address for forty minutes, and whether we can prove we were there.

Each position arrives with the things that give it meaning: ignition state, speed, heading, the trip it belongs to and the geofence it crossed. That is what converts a coordinate into an event somebody can use — arrived at the customer, left the depot, stationary with the engine running for nineteen minutes at a site with no scheduled stop against it.

Devices buffer while the network is gone and upload the backlog when it returns, so the historical trail closes even where the live view could not. Where a real gap remains, it is displayed as a gap and the last position is labelled with its age. The rate is set per device profile, so a high-value load can report aggressively while a trailer tag in a yard reports a few times a day. What matters more than the headline rate is that every reading carries its timestamp, so you can always see how fresh the picture is.

The device keeps taking satellite fixes and stores them locally, then uploads the backlog once it reconnects. The historical trail therefore closes properly across a tunnel, a valley or an underground dock, even though the live view could not follow it. The live view stays honest while it lasts: the vehicle shows its last position with the age of that reading attached, rather than sitting there implying it is parked. Prolonged silence raises an alert, because a genuinely failed device looks identical to one in a dead zone until something asks.

No. The platform is deliberately vendor-neutral and existing units are brought in wherever their protocol can be read, which covers most mainstream aftermarket hardware. One thing is worth checking before you evaluate anything: some units are contractually tied to their supplier's own back end, and the raw feed is not available to a third party at any price. In a city centre with tall buildings, signals bounce and accuracy degrades to something that can place a van on the wrong side of a street.
